Meet Your Editor

A few things you should probably know.

I read East of Eden when I was ten years old. I had absolutely no idea what I was reading — but it set the pace for the rest of my life. I’ve been chasing that feeling through books ever since, and I’ve never stopped.

I finish every book I start. No matter what. I don’t believe in DNF. That’s not a policy — it’s just who I am. Sometimes it’s painful. Sometimes it’s a slog. But I will get to the last page, and I will have something honest to say about the journey. That’s the kind of reader your manuscript deserves.

I’ll read any genre. I’ll read 400,000 words if you have them. I’ll meet you wherever you are in the process.

Here’s what I actually know about AI writing — and it’s more than most editors will admit: everyone thinks the em dash is the tell. It’s not just the em dash anymore. There are words. There are phrases. There are patterns that show up when someone doesn’t know how to prompt correctly, and a good editor catches them the same way an auditor catches a number that doesn’t quite add up. I’ve been proudly em-dashing since I wrote my first book in 2015. I’m a recovering comma addict. I am not perfect — nobody is. But I know what I’m looking at, and I know what I’m looking for.

That’s actually why I love reading outside my wheelhouse. When you’re not comfortable, you’re paying attention differently. You find things you weren’t even looking for. That’s the whole job.

A good editor is like a good auditor — thorough, honest, and never there to make you feel bad about the numbers.

This isn’t a red pen massacre. It’s a masquerade.

The writing world is changing. I’m evolving with it — and I’m not afraid to say so. I don’t care what tools you used. I care whether your story lands.

Tools come and go. Craft remains. My job is to help your writing breathe — not argue about how the air got there.

  • Judgment-free feedback, full stop
  • An editor who understands KU economics and series read-through
  • Someone who respects both craft and the reality of modern publishing
